Deconstructing Womanhood Series

My artwork is a deeply personal exploration of feminist themes, centered on the lived experiences and often-silenced struggles of women. I reflect on the complexities of aging, the quiet battles with health, and the resilience required to endure chronic pain. Through the interplay between body and face—often intentionally distorted—I aim to express the emotional tension women carry, navigating the impossible balance between work, motherhood, beauty, composure, and societal expectations.

I frequently depict the female form, particularly the breasts, not as sexualized objects, but as powerful markers of feminine experience—representing both the vulnerability of the body and the quiet strength required to move through trauma, aging, and expectation. These forms challenge traditional representations, offering instead a raw and honest perspective on womanhood.

Working primarily in mixed media, I use layered textures and materials to reflect the fragmented, multifaceted nature of these experiences. As a psychotherapist specializing in trauma, including the long-reaching impact of sexual abuse, my clinical work profoundly informs my art. I strive to give voice to those who have been silenced, creating space for healing and truth through visual storytelling.

My return to art follows a personal journey marked by physical challenges, including a diagnosis of dysautonomia that forced me to give up dance—once a vital part of my identity. Though painful, this transition became a catalyst for rediscovery. Art, once dormant, has reemerged as both refuge and revelation—a way to transform pain into connection, meaning, and presence.
